as a team is so rewarding, each member
brings their strengths and supports each other.”

SURGE ONYX PLAYER

PLAY

Melbourne Surge’s membership continues to grow each year, along with its number of competitive players!

The club adds an additional team to the Victorian State League approximately every two years due to the ongoing growth.

The club now fields up to 5 teams of varying abilities and goals.

Additionally our social members play scratch matches and train to improve their skills, understanding of the game, and general fitness (or to have fun!)

If you would like to play or have any other enquiries, just get in touch.

STATE LEAGUE TEAMS

Melbourne Surge fields a number of Mix Gendered Teams as well as a Womens Team, through a range of skill levels from entry-level to the highly-competitive. As such, there is a level to suit the skills and motivations for most athletes within the club.

MIXED SURGE SL3

Our SL3 level has our most experienced and/or highly skilled players. Competing in SL3, they are focussed, highly competitive and play to win.

MIXED SURGE SL4

Our SL4 level has experienced players and/or highly skilled players. Competing in SL4, they are focussed on further developing skills and play to win.

MIXED SURGE SL5

Our SL5 level builds on a foundation of established abilities. The teams are competitive, have fun and develops their skills year on year.

MIXED SURGE SL6

The SL6 level is formed mostly by the recent graduates from our Rookies Program along with some supportive experienced players who can foster skills growth amongst the cohort and supporting confidence of our newer players.

WOMENS SURGE SL1

Surge introduced a Womens SL1 team in 2024 comprised of veteran players of the sport. They are focussed, highly competitive and play to win.

COMPETITION TRAINING

We run two 2-hour training sessions for competitive members on Sunday afternoons at Melbourne High from 12pm-4pm.

SWIM TRAINING

Our social swim training is held on Tuesday nights at the Richmond Recreational Centre from 7-8pm.

INTRA-CLUB / SURGE SOCIAL GAMES

Melbourne Surge run a social Intra-Club tournament several times throughout the calendar year, generally on a Wednesday Night.

This offers the opportunity for club members to come together and play the sport in a supportive and inclusive manner in a low stakes environment.

WOMEN IN WATER POLO

Studies have shown that women are vastly under-represented in Australian sport, and Melbourne Surge wants to change that.

While the majority of our members are men, women absolutely welcome to be members and train with us in a supported environment.

Water Polo Victoria supports mixed state league teams so we are now more inclusive than ever at Melbourne Surge having mixed competitive teams in a variety of Leagues.

As an inclusive club, we are also keen to support the sporting experiences of the trans, intersex, and non-gender binary communities. Contact us about how we can support your needs and how you can get involved
