“Seeing Surge Black develop and succeed
as a team is so rewarding, each member
brings their strengths and supports each other.”
ANDREW HALL (RUSTY)
SURGE BLACK CAPTAIN
Melbourne Surge’s membership continues to grow each year, and with it the number of competitive players!
The club adds an additional team to the Victorian State League approximately every two years due to the ongoing growth.
The club now fields four teams of varying abilities and goals. Additionally our social members play scratch matches and train to improve their skills, understanding of the game, and general fitness (or to have fun!)
If you would like to play or have any other enquiries, just get in touch.
We field a number of Mix Gendered Teams through State Leagues 5-7 as well as a partnered team with Melbourne Uni in the Women's State League 3 competition. These teams field a broad range of skills and motivations so can find a place for most athletes.
Our SL6 teams build on a foundation of established abilities. The teams are competitive, have fun and develops their skills year on year.
The SL7 teams are formed mostly by the recent graduates from our Rookies Program and are the players that are still wanting to improve on the basics, playing together and having fun.
Our SL5 team has our more experienced players and/or highly skilled players. Competing in SL-5, they are focussed, highly competitive and play to win.
The Mix Gendered League is held on Thursday nights at mostly MSAC but also utilise some other pools around melbourne.
Women's League is held on Tuesday nights at either MSAC or South Yarra Sports Centre.
Games vary between 6 & 9.30pm.
Training for competitive members is held on Sunday afternoon at MSAC from 2-4pm.
Our social swim training is held on Wednesday nights at the Richmond Recreational Centre from 7-8pm.
WOMEN IN WATER POLO
Studies have shown that women are vastly under-represented in Australian sport, and Melbourne Surge wants to change that.
While the majority of our members are men, women are more than welcome to be members and train with us in a supported environment.
Water Polo Victoria supports mixed state league teams so we are now more inclusive than ever at Melbourne Surge having mixed competitive teams in SL6 and SL7.
As an inclusive club, we are also keen to support the sporting experiences of the trans, intersex, and non-gender binary communities. Contact us about how we can support your needs.
Melbourne Surge charges a nominal annual membership fee each financial year so our members are covered by our Constitution, Code of Conduct and Insurance.
Twice a year, Melbourne Surge charges all members a training fee; this is to cover pool hire, coaches, training equipment and other items. Fees are decided based on the number of weeks, pool hire and number of members.
WATER POLO VICTORIA
For our competitive members, Water Polo Vic charges a fee once per financial year to take part in both summer and winter comps.
